When Mikelle and Michelle began supporting each other as they started their journey through perimenopause. This gave them the idea to create a support community to help other women who might feel alone. They share their stories, struggles and discoveries on their blog
According to the Menopause Foundation of Canada, “A shocking one in two women (46%) feel unprepared for this stage of life. Even more remarkable, four in 10 women report feeling alone.”
With more than one billion people set to reach menopause by 2025, these are astonishing trends that need to stop. This Is Perimenopause, a small yet fierce female-led Canadian company, is determined to shatter the silence, start a conversation, and help women to get the information and support they need to navigate this often difficult journey.
ThisIsPerimenopause.com shares real life stories about menopause and their midlife journey that all women can relate to. They infuse evidence-based information and expert advice into their stories in a way that women can easily understand and digest.
This Is Perimenopause’s community is a place where women can go to where they can feel seen, heard, and understood. Where they can find answers to their multitude of menopause questions and some simple tools to help support them.
Co-founders, Mikelle and Michelle, were inspired to start their community after struggling with symptoms for more than five years. At first, like so many women, they struggled silently, feeling overwhelmed, confused, scared and broken. It wasn’t until they started sharing their stories with each other and other friends that they realized so many women were struggling with the same concerns. In sharing their stories, they began to realize how much easier it was to tackle their symptoms with a community of women at their side.
And so began their mission to build an online platform where women can go to find a community, support and answers. A little over a year ago they decided to start a business and try to connect with other woman who felt isolated and confused while going through perimenopause.
They joined a startup incubator and started sharing their experience on a blog, and social media channels.
The goal of ThisIsPerimenopause.com is to help others be better informed than they were when they started their journeys. As a group, women can advocate for their best health, live their best life and learn to thrive and not just survive menopause. Their goal is to empower women to be the heroes of their own story.
“No one is coming to explain menopause to you. There is no simple test. There is no roadmap. And no two journeys are the same. It’s up to each of us to understand our bodies and learn to advocate for the support and solutions we need.”
“We used to think menopause signalled the end. It is not. It’s actually the beginning of what is shaping up to be the best time in our lives.”
By boldly sharing their stories, these co-founders are speaking up in a much needed conversation about menopause. They are building a vibrant community where women recognize that although this can be an overwhelming time, they are not alone.
