Apex Primary School will be releasing its new Rushd curriculum and introducing that into the school from September. 2021 at the start of the new academic year The school's journey to improve Islamic Primary Education started from the inception of the school in 2004 and they have relentlessly worked hard to meet that goal despite many challenges. The main aim is to create a holistic thematic curriculum entwined with the Islamic ethos - defying the conventional model and making a positive change

Meherun Hamid, Headteacher at Apex Primary School, says: "We wanted to try and embed something new with the Rushd model. Anyone familiar with Islamic schools probably knows the challenges we face trying to ensure our children have a high standard of education partnered with a strong Muslim identity and teach that with creative pedagogy. It can be tricky to get the balance right. We felt this was a problem because the current models in schools may not offer a meaningful experience to the child and hence develops confusion in their identity as a British Muslim. ."

So as a welcome breath of fresh air, the Rush model offers a curriculum that brings together all the subjects to make learning contextualised so that it is meaningful. to the child. It is a values-based education model and offers a student-centered tarbiyah approach to pedagogy as well as a comprehensive thematic curriculum all deep-rooted within an Islamic ethical framework. The small class sizes contribute further to the effectiveness of the Rushd Curriculum as all children are given the attention they need to progress. The school's focus on improvement starts with the teachers. To that end, the school has adopted a 4.5 day school week so that valuable time is allocated to staff development and improving the pedagogy.

Meherun Hamid also said "We want to give our children the best start in their education and a springboard to the next phase of their life. With the Rushd model, they have a new possibility. We want our parents to feel confident that they have formed the best home-school partnership to support their child's Islamic Primary education. Decisions about the right school and education are at the forefront of many parents with recent changes in the RSE (Relationship and Sex Education) curriculum, so it is important to consider the school based on its ethos and see if it meets your child's needs."

This isn't the first time Apex Primary School has defied convention either. It became one of a few Muslim schools to register as a member of the long-established Independent Schools Association (ISA) in 2017 and is now inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI). The last successful ISI inspection took place in 2019. The report can be found on our recently updated website and social media (more information to come soon).

The school serves the following catchment areas of East London - Redbridge, Newham, Barking, Dagenham Romford, Essex, and other areas near Ilford. It also works closely with other local schools, businesses, and community to enhance teaching and learning.

Apex Primary School has been established for over 16 years since 2004 and is under the umbrella of Apex Trust. The Trust aims to contribute positively to the organic growth of individuals and help them realise and reach their full potential. The school's aim is in line with this and aims to help little feet climb mountains. The school strives to ensure the students have a solid foundation in their identity and core values as a Muslim so that students become more; [1] Faithful, [2] Informed, [3] Tolerant, [4] Responsible & [5] Active individuals.
