Indian-American singer-songwriter Adi Rao shares his new single “Thrills,” and the official lyric video out now on all streaming platforms. His distinctive, genre-blending sound infuses pop sensibilities inspired by the likes of Shawn Mendes, John Legend and Charlie Puth, with soulfully powerful vocals melded with Eastern flair.
It took a few years to really understand, accept, embrace and celebrate his identity, because it was so dual-natured at every minute of each day. When he was 8, he moved from India to the East Coast, not really understanding how different things would be. His debut album, “Broken Suitcase” reflects the divide, the changes, and the fun that came along the way. The music Adi creates fuses Western styles with Eastern soul to produce a genre-bending, alternative sound, from his home studio in Austin, TX. His debut album will take you on an unconventional cathartic journey exploring the nooks and crannies of how I see the world around me.
This entire album was done in a makeshift home “Studio", with a co-producer who he trusts dearly. Calling up old high-school buddies to track them playing bass, drums, and horns in their own make-shift studios. Even recording inside closets, at hotel rooms, and in echoey bedrooms. He has produced mid-flight, in-between meals, and in-between moving from Los Angeles to Austin. All of these unconventional ways of getting things together, all came together in the most beautiful manner.
Adi first rose to global recognition after winning India’s prestigious State Award for Excellence in the Performing Arts in 2013 and Best Debut Artist in 2015. His global collaborations with established and rising artists has garnered multiple viral hits with over 50M cumulative views. His upcoming debut album takes you on an unconventional, cathartic journey exploring the nooks and crannies of his perception of the world around him.
Outside of music, Adi is known across the entertainment industry being a voice actor in Bollywood & Hollywood productions, which has led to working with the likes of AR Rahman and on major productions such as Pelé: Birth of a Legend, Mira: Royal Detective, and Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (upcoming 2021 film).
