Following the success of his first book Dear Austin - A Letter To My Son, which focused on parenting and the father-son dynamic, Perkins decided to write a second book that catered to a broader, more diverse audience. Though still very personal, on LIFE: Rants, Tributes and Lessons Learned in No Particular Order explores more aspects of the human experience and invites readers to reflect on their own growth and evolution.
“Most of the material in the book I put to paper just to prevent my head from exploding,” joked Perkins. “I’m always flattered when friends, family, and strangers ask for printed copies of my work. Now they have a bunch of them all in one accessible compilation.”
However, gathering and compiling all of the pieces into one collection proved to be a difficult task for Perkins, who had not been the best steward of his work. His computer required numerous updates, many file formats had to be changed, and some pieces could only be partially recovered. Nevertheless, he persevered and managed to assemble 92 pages of high-quality content.
The tones of the pieces in the book vary from funny and entertaining to somber and insightful. Perkins also shares many of his “contrarian” opinions and viewpoints, most of which he expects to challenge readers and their preconceived notions.
In addition to his career in the motion picture and television industry, Perkins recounts several stories from his leisure pursuits, which include writing, music, and digital marketing. Being a devoted father and husband, he also divulges many of the lessons he has learned while occupying both roles.
