Aviation Renter’s Insurance Policies Offer Liability Coverage To Protect Policyholders From The Increased Exposure Of Flying Non-owned Aircraft
Corona, CA Release January 27, 2021.
Operating an aircraft comes with great responsibilities that carry heavy legal liabilities if the worst should ever happen. To protect themselves, pilots flying aircraft that they don't own should carry a comprehensive aviation renters insurance policy to help mitigate their legal liability risk. BWI Aviation Insurance owner Matt White emphasizes the legal defense protections such policies can offer.
For Immediate Release
Whereas aviation liability insurance is a requirement for plane owners to carry, pilots operating aircraft that they do not own are not always covered by the owner’s policy. This is a significant distinction as aviation accidents have the potential to be catastrophic causing massive damage to private property and loss of human life. In such cases, one can easily expect for expensive and lengthy lawsuits to follow.
BWI Aviation Insurance owner Matt White is doing his part to spread the word about this liability so that pilots do not find themselves at risk for such liability. “Aviation renters insurance is perhaps one of the most affordable and yet, consequential insurance solutions one can find in the industry” said White. He pointed out that while aviation renters insurance covers those liabilities, it is the legal defense benefit that pilots may cherish most.
“Sadly, a pilot doesn’t actually have to be in the wrong for someone to sue them which would cause them to rack up huge legal bills,” added White. He clarified that aviation renters insurance can start out as low as $72 dollars for an entire years worth of coverage. “At that price, the coverage would pay for itself once a pilot had to pay for the first hour of any attorney” said White, “and that benefit alone makes purchasing an airplane renter's insurance policy a smart decision.”
White noted that far too many pilots assume that they are covered under the owner’s policy, only to find out in the wake of an accident that they are not or the owners policy had inadequate coverage. He encourages every pilot who will be flying a non-owned aircraft to reach out to an experienced broker to find out what is covered. With over 660,000 certified pilots in America and only around 200,000 aircraft in the U.S. fleet, the chance of a pilot flying a plane they do not own remains high. As such, the legal liabilities will remain if pilots take to the skies without the proper coverage.
