Just like other ZHA design projects, The Continental offers customers an experience to indulge their senses. The timeless interiors were inspired by the bright airiness of Europe’s grand cafés, but the team didn't want to give the space a complete face lift. Instead, the restaurant had a tasteful refurbishment while retaining the original wave-effect ceiling design by Thomas Heatherwick. The smooth curves of the designer ceiling have been complemented by the addition of unique lighting and a colour scheme taken from nature. The natural green and brown colour tones effortlessly marry the indoors with the outdoor greenery that can be seen through the large floor to ceiling windows creating a brighter, airier and more relaxed ambiance. Using Heatherwick’s undulating ceiling as an anchor, the interior features a mix of emerald green hand glazed Italian ceramics, smooth white marble, inviting leather banquettes, oak panels and eye-catching seeded glass pendant lighting. The Continental is situated on the fourth level of One Pacific Place in Admiralty, which was considered to be a tricky place to attract restaurant diners. However, since Swire Hotels' takeover of the space and the launch of The Continental restaurant, the space now offers a relaxing setting for diners in the busiest part of the city. The restaurant has a warm and comfortable ambiance which is a delight during cold evenings. The space has a sophisticated European flair with a nice air of refinement and features an open garden terrace if diners want to eat outside on warmer evenings. The refurbishment was completed in 2016 for Swire Restaurants and was greeted with great positivity from customers. This is thanks to a faultless collaboration between the owners and ZHA.
The Swire Restaurant group very much wanted the refurbishment to be designed with the customer in mind. They knew the importance of choosing the right interior design partners to work with that understood the link between delivering what the customer wants and profitability for the company. Something ZHA has years of knowledge and experiencing with. For more information on Zanghellini & Holt Associates head to http://zha.com.hk
