Brian Campbell: Palos Verdes Library District Offerings Continue On Covid Footing

Dec 16, 2020

Palos Verdes Library District Offerings Continue On Covid Footing says Brian Campbell, interim President.

As many local people know, the Palos Verdes Library District is a nationally recognized, award-winning library system serving all four cities on the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula and governed by a publicly elected Board of Trustees currently headed by interim president Brian Campbell.

The PVLD offers a variety of community programs such as the PVLD Adult Services department which helps the public and library community by providing welcoming, responsive, professional customer service.

Brian Campbell reminds the public tha during the current Covid restrictions, library indoor facilities are closed to the public, however library curbside pickups and services remain available at all branches. Also, several popular library services will continue to be available in virtual/online form.

One of the exciting virtual PVLD offerings to our community is our Local History Center which is frequently visited by online patrons interested in learning about the history of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. With the closure of our library facilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic, archivist and local history librarian Monique Sugimoto is bringing our community history to you with the "Pedal PV" vlog. Each episode brings a slice of Peninsula history and ranges from the natural and built environment to our social history such as the following:

Episode 1: Tour de Palos Verdes Peninsula

Episode 2: Cliffs and Recreation sites

Episode 3: Peacock Spotting

Episode 4: Peninsula Military Front and historical overview

Additionally, the PVLD will continue to offer useful online tools to the community such as the following:

Library Research Tools — Explore the library's online resources designed to help elementary and secondary school students make their projects, reports, and research papers shine.

Web Research Tools — Carefully selected homework help internet sites that correlate to the K-5 curriculum.

Reading Level Programs — Discover valuable tips and tricks for finding great books by their Accelerated Reader, Lexile, or Scholastic Reading Counts levels.

Brainfuse — Online tutoring, state-aligned lessons, homework help, and more.
