Free Prostate Cancer Support In Calgary

Being diagnosed with prostate cancer can initially be a huge shock, after which your mind will likely be filled with hundreds of questions. The monthly meetings at local charity group PROSTAID Calgary aim to answer those questions, while also giving you support on your journey.

Go to https://prostaid.org/meetings/ for more information.

Monthly meetings are also held if you’re a wife or caregiver, as well as another group for ‘Warriors,’ those who manage advanced cancer. All groups are entirely free, and there’s no need to register beforehand if you want to attend.

PROSTAID Calgary’s main monthly meetings, for individuals affected by prostate cancer, feature a medical guest speaker or healthcare professional to help discuss topics of interest. You will also have an opportunity to share your own experiences and/or ask questions, because this is all about support.

“PROSTAID Calgary always meets on the third Wednesday of the month to support those affected by prostate cancer and to deal with health issues and featured topics of discussion,” a charity representative explained. “The meetings require no advance registration, and we never charge anything for attendance, so feel free to come and receive a warm welcome.”

There Is Cause For Hope

The Canadian Cancer Society estimates that almost 28,000 Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, representing 22% of all new cancer cases among the male population. Despite those numbers, advances in treatment methods mean that 5-year survival rates are now sitting at over 90%.

PROSTAID Calgary points out that its goal is not to offer medical advice or advocate one treatment method over another, rather to inform and support. The charity states that medical advances give great reason for hope, and this is a central objective of the monthly meetings.

About PROSTAID Calgary

First established in 1993, PROSTAID Calgary relies on private contributions to further its mission of supporting individuals and educating the wider community about prostate cancer. In addition to the monthly meeting program, the charity produces a periodical journal, known as The Digital Examiner, which now has over 1,300 subscribers.

“Our objective is to assist and support patients, families and friends by informing, empathizing and reassuring men on their journey with prostate cancer,” the group continued. “By sharing our own experiences with cancer, we lift everyone’s spirits and strengthen our resolve to fight for quality of life and an eventual cure.”

You don’t have to face prostate cancer alone. Join the monthly meetings at PROSTAID Calgary, because together we’re stronger.
