Medical abuse victims in Columbus are encouraged to report abuse and seek help as early as possible – and John Bey is always ready to provide compassionate legal support.
Sexual abuse of patients by medical professionals is substantially more common than previously thought - and the fact that the majority of abuse cases go unreported is a major factor that allow the issue to persist.
Encouraging victims to report the issue as early as possible, Abuse Guardian’s Ohio advocate John Bey offers compassionate, effective legal support.
An essential aspect of Ohio sexual abuse law is the statue of limitations. “Ohio's statute of limitations for sex crimes is quite rigid, which means that survivors have only a limited window in which they can file a lawsuit against their abuser or the institution where the abuse occurred,” explains John. “In Ohio, survivors who were over 18 at the time of the crime have just two years from when they discovered or should have discovered their injury to bring a claim against their abuser. For minors who suffered doctor sexual abuse, they have until age 28 or two years from when they discovered or should have discovered their injury, whichever comes later.”
There are some exceptions allowing for reporting abuse past this period - for instance, if institutional negligence was involved - so John urges all survivors to schedule a free consultation with a professional sexual abuse attorney to discuss their options. Since both the individual and the institution may be held liable, consulting with a legal professional is key to find the best course of legal action.
John has extensive experience helping abuse victims get justice and obtain full compensation for medical treatments, mental health therapy, loss of income, emotional distress, and other associated losses.
