CRX Coatings Redefines Sustainable Coatings With Graphene-Infused Bottom Paint

Oct 26, 2024

Everyone has to play their part in keeping our oceans clean and limiting unnecessary pollution. Boat owners are no exception. CRX Coating’s new X21Foul Release Bottom Paint is not only eco-friendly but improves vessels’ efficiency too!

You might have heard of graphene but did you know just how effective it is as a bottom boat paint? Keeping the bottom boat protected and organisms off-craft doesn't have to hurt the planet or the ocean's millions of species.

Answering the need for eco-friendly protective coatings in the wake of increased regulatory pressure from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), CRX Coatings introduces the X21 foul release coating made for all waters. Compliant with IMO Document AFS/CONF/26 and all subsequent amendments, the graphene-based coating represents a truly sustainable non-toxic alternative to ablative paints containing copper and other biocides that can be harmful to marine life.

Works In All Waters

X21 has been developed to work on both freshwater and saltwater vessels and can be easily applied to aluminum, steel, or fiberglass hulls. The product creates a smooth surface on a boat's hull which makes it difficult for barnacles, algae, and other marine organisms to attach and grow, thus reducing the time needed for cleaning, scraping, and scrubbing.

Hydrodynamic Performance

The streamlined, low-friction surface created by X21 improves hydrodynamic performance, reducing drag and increasing fuel efficiency without having to rely on toxic biocide coatings. The formula also allows vessels to self-clean, with the motion of the boat removing marine fouling without releasing any harmful chemicals.

Durability

X21 is infused with graphene – which is highly resistant to corrosion - offering increased durability compared with traditional anti-fouling paints. “With just one application, you’ll enjoy protection against fouling for up to three years, saving you time and money in the long run,” CRX Coatings explains.

Less Cleaning, Less Painting, Less Pollution

The X21 formula supports the move towards a circular economy in the boating sector. “The shift to long-lasting, non-toxic coatings means less frequent need for reapplication, fewer resources consumed, and a reduction in the environmental footprint of the boating industry,” the company adds.

Will I Need A Primer?

Prior to application, CRX Coatings' X11 Epoxy Primer should be used on all direct-to-metal steel or aluminum hulls, well-used and worn fiberglass hulls, or any discolored hull. X21 is transparent so the original color of the boat underneath will be still visible.

Mix It Up

X21 is a two-part coating so you'll need to mix it at a ratio of 4 to 1. One gallon of the paint offers 480 square feet of coverage.

If biocides just don't float your boat anymore, try CRX X21!
