Did you know that opening an email could cost you your Identity?
Technology just like electricity can be dangerous if you don't respect it.
Did you know there is a hack into someone’s computer every 39 seconds?
There are over a quarter of a million malware threats created daily?
The average cost of a data breach today is about 150 Million Dollars?
The Average cybersecurity budget in the United States is just over 15 Billion Dollars?
Then why are people so lax about cyber security, is it because they are just too trusting.
Do they feel they are safe just because their alone in their home, office or other location?
Maybe it's because people have developed a false sense of security. What is that your asking?
This is when people become too comfortable and feel they are impenetrable from anyone and of
course don't need or believe in security.
Unfortunately many in our world never seem to wake-up and don't believe something till they experience it with
their own eyes and ears. Hackers don't care about you, your family or loved one's just that they get what they
want at any cost. Each year we hear stories of people that have become victim to yet another terrible online
hack or scam.
When will people wake-up? Does it take them being scammed to understand that this is not a joke and it's very
real. Just purchasing a piece of antivirus software and malware scanner will greatly increase one's chances of
avoiding these bad actors.
One common area that seems to allude many is phishing and no we are not talking about something you do with a pole to catch your lunch or dinner. This is when someone attempts to trick you into disclosing personal, confidential information that would either help a hacker use your accounts or steal your identity. Usually they will attempt to get you to give them usernames, passwords, social security numbers, passport numbers, policy numbers, bank account numbers and credit card numbers. He/she may send you a link that takes you to a website masquerading to be the real one but instead steals your information. by the time you realize what has happened they have gotten into your accounts, charged up a storm, changed your password, and soon may take your identity.
These people may also deploy malware to a take over and gain access to your computer, your files and yes that personal information. Did you know that malware can be transferred by a USB key or simply opening an email message that will silently install a program to capture your information.
Another vehicle hackers will use is to install ransomware which displays a message which demands an amount of money on the screen or that files will be permanently encrypted. Whatever you do; never give them any money or personal information. This often comes after downloading a free program from an unscrupulous site and since many don't have a virus scanner; presto an instant message becomes much more then a threat.
Often times, systems are smart enough to block fraudulent email senders but they use a process called spoofing whereby the IP address of the sender is altered to one of a provider that is known to be safe to insure it passes most e-mail systems security.
