Bayside Pet Resort’s land donation To Easter Seals Southwest Florida Organic Farm Program provides new opportunities to employ teems with disabilities and teaches them new skills.
[SARASOTA, FLORIDA] — Easter Seals Southwest Florida will receive a 0.37 acre land donation from neighboring Bayside Pet Resort to expand Easter Seals’ organic farm. The organizations will celebrate the land exchange with a ground-breaking ceremony on Thursday, May 30.
“Anyone would be amazed to learn about Easter Seals and all that they provide for deserving families in our community” said Angie Pantazis, Director of Operations at Bayside Pet Resort. “Seeing the positive impact they have on individuals every day is so inspiring. The combination of their amazing team and their passion for helping a community in need is infectious. You can’t help but want to get involved.”
The Easter Seals Organic Farm program (Academy Farms) is an innovative program that teaches teens how to grow organic herbs and produce, and creates an earned income stream by selling the produce to local restaurants and grocers. The program is applying for organic certification. The income provides greater learning and employment opportunities for the teens.
The organic farm expansion is just one of many partnerships on which the pet resort and the non-profit collaborate. Some Easter Seals students enjoy valuable on-the-job training they gain while working alongside pet care staff at Bayside Pet Resort in Sarasota. The students also love their “Pawtism Dog” named “Braden Jet” who was adopted and trained by Bayside to meet the specific needs of individuals with Autism in the classroom.
