Fort Worth health insurance covered if Affordable Care Act is repealed

Rick Thornton, a health insurance agent in Fort Worth, says a new bill has been passed that not only covers those with preexisting conditions but also is designed to work independently.

Fort Worth Health Insurance and the people who have it now have an extra layer of protection in the event the Affordable Care Act is repealed somewhere down the line. A new bill called Senate Bill 284 passed in late February protects those Americans with preexisting health conditions and is designed to go into effect if the federal ACA was to ever be repealed. According to WVPublic, the bill passed the Senate by a vote of 20-14 and is on its way to the House of Delegates.

According to the report, all the top lawmakers in the city are in support of the bill. Many of them are the same lawmakers who, in 2018, joined a lawsuit to repeal the ACA’s individual mandate to purchase health insurance. If you recall, that mandate imposed a penalty for individuals and families who did not purchase health insurance Fort Worth. The latest bill will be part of a reinsurance program to support health insurance companies that care for individuals who, due to a serious health condition, have high health care costs.

Rick Thornton, a Fort Worth health insurance agent, added that one of the opponents to the bill said this new bill could lead to higher premiums across the state and was also critical of those who favored it since a similar bill that was much shorter was previously was never addressed. This lawmaker’s opinions are clearly in the majority, however. Overall, this is big news for anyone who has health insurance. Preexisting health conditions have always been treated as the red-headed stepchild when it comes to receiving proper healthcare coverage. The fact that lawmakers are advocating for a better way to protect these individuals is a good sign of what is to come, regardless of the fate of the Affordable Care Act.
