Sorare already has existing deals with Major League Baseball, and has announced that a version of their NFTs are in the works for the NBA, but this is the company’s first attempt at providing the same digital assets for second-tier teams. The company eventually plans to expand its collectibles to include lower-tier teams from Germany, France, and Spain as well.
The recent additions are part of Sorare’s upcoming “Second Division Europe,” competition, which will allow you to collect, sell, and trade digital sports cards to create your own fantasy teams. So far, five English Football League clubs have signed deals for the new fantasy league, including Burnley, Watford, and Millwall.
In their newest guide, Chiliz News explains that Sorare is working to conclude deals with 19 more English Football League clubs, after securing a new partnership with LaLiga 2, Spain’s second division. There is no news yet on whether Sorare has signed deals with French or German second-division teams, though experts speculate that is likely the company’s next move.
While Sorare is primarily a blockchain-based fantasy league, it has also seen recent success in helping to identify up-and-coming players. With such close attention being paid to the statistics of every player, the fantasy league has helped fans to identify which players show consistent improvement, and are likely to make the move to premier leagues.
Michael Meltzer, head of business development at Sorare, said, “Many of today’s best players began their careers outside the top five leagues, and the EFL Championship is increasingly seen globally as a great source of emerging talent, so it’s important to us that our game reflects that.”
While the game of football may be much the same as it always has, the options for fans to interact with their favourite teams keep evolving.
