Rick Thornton, a Corpus Christi health insurance agent, says comments recently made by red-state lawmaker suggest that long-time advocates for repealing the Affordable Care Act may be softening their stance.
Corpus Christi health insurance and the millions of people who have it may not have to worry about continued efforts by those who have long wished to repeal the Affordable Care Act — even if control in the Senate flips with the next election. The latest news comes on the heels of comments made by red-state Senator Chuck Grassley, who hinted that the GOP won’t attempt to repeal the ACA if his party retakes control of the Senate. Grassley was speaking at a town hall and added that while he doesn’t foresee any changes to ACA, he cannot speak for all of his constituents.

Grassley has served in the Senate since 1981 and is running for his eighth term this year. According to several reports, he made the comment about the ACA after he was asked how red-state lawmakers planned to extend affordable healthcare to more Americans. This includes individuals and families who now have health insurance in Corpus Christi. He was quoted as saying, “It’s not repealing the Affordable Care Act, if that’s your question. Yes, I’m saying that I would not — we’re not going to repeal the Affordable Care Act.” Again, he added that he couldn’t speak for the 49 members of the GOP.
Rick Thornton, a Corpus Christi health insurance agent , says this is potentially good news for the long-term survivability of the ACA. The bill has faced countless legal battles through three sitting U.S. Presidents but in recent months has shown just how much promise it has as the current administration continues to promote affordable healthcare for all. Thornton added that blue-state lawmakers used the potential loss of protections for preexisting conditions as a defining issue in their successful effort to take back control of the House of Representatives in the 2018 midterm elections.
