In the interview, Kare explains that the first step in her coaching program is to ask you what success in this area means for you. While answers vary, she says that most mothers want to have a few sit-down, stress-free mealtimes with their family.
Martin's goal is to help you let go of the guilt that commonly comes with not being able to cook all meals for the family. She advises using the 80/20 principle. The idea is for you to plan and prep for 80% of family meals, while allowing the family to eat takeout or leftovers 20% of the time.
The biggest planning tip is to start the meal planning early. Martin's ‘Think Ahead Thursday’ strategy helps you to start thinking ahead of time so that by the time Monday arrives, you have had enough time to sort out your meal planning.
Her main food preparation tip is to start preparing food as soon as one gets home from the grocery store. Defrosting in time is made easier by putting a reminder on the phone. Martin also explains the benefits of having a go-to recipe hub of meals you know how to cook and using a digital app to create a grocery list based on the required ingredients.
When talking about picky eaters, Martin says they should be given one night a week where their preferred meal is eaten, but should not be catered to all the time.
Kare says, “As a former personal chef, a mom, and wife, I know how to consistently get delicious, healthy meals on the table simply and quickly.”
