Innovative Charity Hopes To Eliminate Homelessness Using Miles-Points Donations

Dec 13, 2024

Give A Roof, a new charity dedicated to eradicating homelessness, is optimistic about the chances of real progress in 2025.

Change Brings Opportunity

As the US comes to terms with the ramifications of the 2024 election, changemakers across the nation are watching for newly opened doors. At the top of many minds is Elon Musk's Department Of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has pledged to end government overreach into the private sector. One charity, Give A Roof, sees this dramatic restructuring as a potential boon for their organization, which has struggled to overcome bureaucratic hurdles since its establishment in early 2024.

The fact of the matter is that in the present moment, the most broadly recognized challenge to relief projects lies in bureaucracy. Government policy affects not only the types of projects that can be undertaken to provide food and shelter to anyone experiencing homelessness but also the free movement of unhoused individuals.

Why is DOGE Important?

Elon Musk’s DOGE, however, has expressed an interest in eliminating many of the bodies responsible for regulating these projects. At the same time, many have expressed some degree of alarm over this potential upheaval of the regulatory landscape. Still, they would ultimately eliminate hurdles and fast-track progress in solving social issues.

What Does "GiveARoof.org" Do?

As an organization, Give A Roof targets homelessness and food insecurity by allowing individuals to donate unused Airline miles and Hotel points, providing a database, unifying nonprofit organizations, and ensuring they work together seemingly. These miles and points are converted into funds to shelter the unhoused, saving billions of taxpayers' money. The program would solely be funded via donations. It is estimated that 5% of Americans donating miles and loyalty points could quickly generate over $25 billion annually. Millions of miles get unused yearly and expire. In California, 24 billion dollars of taxpayers' money was used over the past 6 years, and the situation has only worsened. Give A Roof intends to use a strategic plan to end homelessness permanently.

More About Give A Roof

Silicon Valley's resident Claudio Bono launched the Give A Roof project after successfully rehabilitating an unhoused individual through hotel points, helping the hotel with occupancy and the city by capturing city tax. He also earned elite qualifications through the hotel program by redeeming room nights—a win for all. Since 2024, Claudio Bono has sought partnerships with corporate and political players to expand the foundations of the Give A Roof program and continues to advocate for it.

As 2025 approaches, Bono's vision for his organization's future sees them collecting donations on a national and international scale to help the most vulnerable members of society first, expanding their reach as they grow. He is optimistic about the potential for progress under the incoming administration. Claudio Bono hopes to see significant strides toward ending homelessness in the coming years.
