Integrative Gestalt Practice 5-Day Intensive Workshop at the Esalen Institute

Oct 2, 2024

Join Perry and Johanna Holloman for their Integrative Gestalt Practice™ workshop at Esalen, “Unlocking Your Authentic Life Through Self-Inquiry.” Explore self-inquiry to enhance work, relationships, and self-appreciation, developing inner agency and intuitive guidance to navigate life’s challenges.

Self-Inquiry, as taught by the Hollomans, is an awareness practiced focused on the development of a profound inner state called “Presence”. Presence, as Perry and Johanna teach it, is the immediate experience of our unfolding lives moment by moment in a manner unfiltered by imprints from our past. The experience of Presence is often veiled by unresolved, painful trauma we have buried deeply within our minds and bodies, keeping us from living lives which are attuned to who and what we really are. Self-Inquiry, as a consistent practice, supports the development of that which is most authentic in us which in turn guides our choices and overall life direction in a more self and relationally attuned manner.

Integrative Gestalt Workshops with the Hollomans

Perry and Johanna Holloman of the Holloman Institute announce their new workshop, “Integrative Gestalt Practice: Unlocking Your Authentic Life Through Self-Inquiry” on December 2 to 6, 2024 at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA.

This four-day intensive workshop works with foundational principles of Gestalt, teaching participants to focus on the present through becoming conscious of what they are experiencing in the “three wisdom centers” they all possess: The body, our emotions, and the mind. Using the powerful method of “Gestalt Self-Inquiry”, the Holloman’s help participants discover how to integrate all three centers into a functioning whole, healing the “body/mind” split responsible for much of the pain and dissatisfaction experienced by individuals in their lives, work and relationships.

Integrative Gestalt Practice is a method of “Self-Inquiry” developed by Perry and Johanna Holloman which they have refined over the last 35 years. It uses a synergistic approach to Self-Inquiry, gently encouraging people to reclaim their authentic selves.

How Self-Inquiry Works

As its name suggests, the “Integrative Gestalt Practice” workshop is an in-depth program for self-exploration using the powerful tool of “Gestalt Self- Inquiry”. It supports individuals to rediscover that which is most authentic and meaningful in their lives and relationships. Understanding how we react in specific situations, from conflicts at work to deeper life transitions with family, friends, and intimate partners is a primary goal of Self-Inquiry. This workshop will provide the necessary tools for people to understand and accept their experience, changing what we can and adapting to changes we cannot. Learning, growth, and positive change often result from the process of Gestalt Self-Inquiry.

“The powerful tools presented in this seminar can help support the emergence of what is most authentic in us and will continue to be helpful in daily life long after we finish together,” explain Perry and Johanna. “The practice of Gestalt Inquiry can imbue us with an internal sense of agency, clarity, and strength and connect us to what many describe as a sense of ‘inner guidance.’”

As Perry and Johanna explain, Gestalt emphasizes the importance of the development of awareness. Working in groups helps participants connect and learn new things about themselves – especially how they relate to other people and how they respond to challenging situations.

What You Can Expect From The Workshop

In this seminar, you will be guided through a combination of experiential practices involving breath, movement, and structured “inquiries” with individual attention from your teachers, Perry and Johanna Holloman.

Over five days, Perry and Johanna will teach you and other participants how to:

→ Become more acutely aware of meaningful signals from the physical body emanating from ancient portions of the nervous system designed to guide and protect us.

→ Focus on the “here and now” rather than dwelling on past experiences.

→ Understand and deal with past conflicts or “unfinished business” with more resilience, patience, and confidence.

Further exercises done in dyads or triads will enable you to “metabolize” your individual experiences supporting self-growth. Additionally, you'll be taught home exercises you can use after the seminar to continue supporting your journey of self-exploration and personal transformation.

Recommended reading for the workshop includes “Gestalt Therapy Verbatim” by Frederick S. Perls and “The Unfolding Now” by A. H. Almaas before coming to the workshop.

Please note that there is an additional $50 faculty tuition.
