Fall is the season for Insurance Open Enrollment. It is time for Open Enrollment in government Medicare and it is also generally the season for open enrollment into company or corporate insurance plans. If your employees are not already going through the procedure of signing up and managing their plans, it falls on you as an employer or HR manager to remind them. Some may have no trouble with the computer interface and may be able to go through the procedure easily. Others may need help.
Communicate with your employees. Be sure they know the dates to either choose or make changes in their insurance plans. Keep following up because it is quite easy for employees to clock in and get engaged with their tasks rather than marching down to the HR room, sitting at a computer, and doing the necessary enrollment. Communicate and keep communicating on the necessity to get enrollment done within your company's time frame.
Keep track of frequently asked questions and problems you run into during the enrollment period. Use that information to build on for next year's enrollment. Learn to improve and streamline the process through feedback from the current year.
It is important that employees understand all the health insurance possibilities. Have a written or computer format for them to study. Make sure that employees start early enough in order to retrieve and bring any information that they might need for computer input. They may not think to bring that information the first time they sit down to the computer. For example, they may need the phone number of a beneficiary. You might consider creating for your employees a "cheat sheet" where you as the employer or HR director recommend questions to think about and information to gather before sitting down to enroll. An interrupted session for lack of information may turn into an incomplete session.
