By launching the online ceramic workshops, the John Natsoulas Gallery aims to respond to the current pandemic by bringing art demonstrations to you virtually. The online workshops provide you with the opportunity to learn from the knowledge and skills of leading ceramic artists while you stay safe at home.
Each workshop is held as a three hour Zoom session covering ceramic art topics including coil-building, hand-building, glazing, and surface decoration. You can learn from the demonstration by simply watching the artist work or by working in your own studio alongside the presentation.
After the demonstration, you are invited to ask questions and converse with the artist in an intimate virtual Q&A. All participants receive a recorded video of the workshop so you can watch the demonstration again at any time. You can purchase downloadable recordings of previous workshops on the John Natsoulas Gallery website.
Upcoming ceramic workshops feature artists including Esther Shimazu, Clayton Keyes, Clifford Rainey, Yeonsoo Kim, and Stan Welsh. Previous workshops you can download have featured artists including Kevin Snipes, Tip Toland, Michelle Gregor, Patti Warashina, and Lisa Clague.

Since it was established over three decades ago, the John Natsoulas Center for the Arts has become one of California’s leading art galleries. The Center is known for its educational conferences, high-profile exhibitions, publishing efforts, and support of emerging artists in painting and sculpture.
A spokesperson for the gallery said: “To keep art alive during a worldwide quarantine, we have started offering online classes taught by our most popular artists. 2020 has been a year that’s forced everyone to adapt. As conditions worsened and we were forced to shut our doors to the public, the John Natsoulas Gallery wanted to find a way to continue to bring art to the people. Our solution was simple: We wanted to bring your favorite artists to you in an entirely new, more direct way.”
