Author of the newly launched guide, Jennifer Lane, compiled it as an easy to read, step-by-step tutorial for beginners in the aromatherapy practice. Lane is also the owner of Loving Essential Oils and a certified Aromatherapist.
She notes that diffusing essential oils is considered one of the most popular and effective ways for enjoying the benefits of aromatherapy. Diffusing essential oils, the aromatherapist points out, can be an exciting way to use essential oils.
The guide contains an introduction to diffusers, details on how they work, the benefits of diffusing, and information on the most utilized type of diffuser. It also comprises over 200 diffuser blend recipes.
According to Lane, the first step to using an essential oil diffuser is selecting a location. She encourages you to choose an open area in your room or office where there is a solid surface.
The selected location should also have an electrical outlet close-by since the diffuser needs to be plugged in. You’re also cautioned against placing the diffuser in direct sunlight areas or in front of a fan.
The next step would be adding water to the diffuser. The guide instructs you to fill your diffuser water tank to the fill line of the water reservoir with clean tap water that is room temperature. Again, the guide cautions you not to overfill the reservoir since this could cause the diffuser to malfunction.
Next, you’re instructed to add between three and ten drops of essential oils to the water. On this note, the guide’s author recommends the use of oils such as lavender or peppermint or any of the blends found in the 200+ recipes listed.

Each recipe was created to suit a variety of needs. These include blends to ease stress, anxiety, and depression, for better sleep, for pain relief, and for those in labor.
Once the water and the oils are in place, the final steps would be to plug in the diffuser and turn it on. Before actually turning it on, you’re instructed to replace the cap or top of the diffuser as required. With the cap back in place, you can then set the features you’d like based on the model of diffuser you’re using.
The guide also contains cleaning instructions, a list of the best essential oils to use, and the author’s reasons for choosing each, as well as links to video and Pinterest tutorials on how to use an essential oil diffuser.
