An international literary conference, CARICON will bring together all elements of Caribbean Literature and cultural heritage; as well as resources to encourage sharing the culture worldwide. This event which takes place the first weekend of June each year sets the stage for the start of Caribbean American Heritage Month celebrations in Southern California. Dr. Amina Blackwood Meeks, Dr. Opal Palmer-Adisa and Dr. Donna Aza Weir-Soley will be among the presenters.

The program will include panel discussions, workshops, book launches, poetry readings, as well as an array of literary vendors and musical performances. As a not-for-profit initiative designed to enrich the community, CARICON will be streamed online free of cost. Workshops will be accessible for a minimal fee.

CARICON is an innovative annual project conceived by V. Steve Russell. Mr. Russell says that “this new bold venture will serve authors, poets, storytellers and other literary enthusiasts.” He goes on to say that “this new concept will be a great avenue for Caribbean authors to showcase and promote their work while attracting publishers, editors, literary agents and other deal makers in the literary industry.”

CARICON is sponsored by the Los Angeles-based non-profit organization Jamaica Cultural Alliance and the Jamaica Tourist Board. The conference also provides sponsorship opportunities for community partners interested in exposing their business to a digital audience in the upwards of 1 million. Interested partners are encouraged to reach out to the conference organizers to secure sponsorship opportunities.
