Necklift Recovery Time & Common Risks Assessed By Board Certified Specialist

Cosmetic surgery used to be a taboo subject, and while the surgeries have always taken place, they were rarely talked about.

Though the topic is no longer seen as taboo, this long silence on cosmetic operations has left many people unaware of what their rejuvenation options are, what risks are associated with different operations, and what they should expect during the recovery period.

Dr. Harvey “Chip” Cole III, MD, FACS, Quadruple Board Certified Surgeon, has launched a series of awareness campaigns to help educate patients about the most popular cosmetic surgeries, and how they can minimize their risks.

There are many methods commonly used to reduce the signs of an aging neck, ranging from wrinkle relaxers and fillers that provide a temporary solution, to surgical rejuvenation that can last up to 15 years. In his latest awareness campaign, Dr. Chip Cole explores the surgical process, risks patients should know, and what's normal during the recovery period.

With over 160,000 necklift surgeries performed in the United States in 2020 alone, this procedure has become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures today. Drawing on more than 33 years of experience as an oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Chip Cole explains everything you may need to know before choosing this operation.

Also known as a platysmaplasty, a necklift surgery can be performed using one of several methods, and is often combined with other procedures to provide a full-face rejuvenation. Which technique is best for you will be determined through a consultation with your surgeon, based on your physical characteristics and desired outcome.

The campaign explains that while most of the complications involved in a necklift procedure are uncommon, no surgery is entirely without risk. The potential hazards include reactions to the anesthetic, blood clots, scarring, and bleeding under the skin. These risks can be minimized by discussing your medical history with the surgeon beforehand, and through proper care during the recovery process.

While the recovery process will be different for each patient, Dr. Chip Cole explains it can take 2 to 3 weeks for you to resume your normal activities. During this time, patients often experience bruising, swelling, and discomfort, and your surgeon may suggest medications for the first several weeks.

The campaign explains that during recovery, many patients are put on restricted diets for a short time, or asked to wear a garment that holds their neck in an upright position. These requirements will vary from patient to patient and should be discussed with your surgeon before the operation.

This campaign is the latest in a series from Dr. Chip Cole. He has completed over 33,000 surgeries and is recognized nationally and internationally as a surgical expert in facial rejuvenation and reconstruction.

Before deciding on cosmetic surgery, it's important to understand your options. Dr. Chip Cole's campaigns provide detailed information about which surgeries can be combined to provide the best results, and the risks you should know about beforehand.
