New York Fishing Season Begins for the Captree Princess

Oak Beach, NY— Fishing season has opened in Captree State Park, Oak Beach, New York, just a short distance from New York City. Captree Princess, a chartered fishing boat operating out of the park, is an 80 foot Super Cruiser that serves as a public boat, available for registered excursions. Depending on the season, Captree Princess guests have the opportunity to possibly catch Cod, Fluke, Tilefish, Blackfish, Summer Fluke, Black Seabass, Tautog, Porgy, Bluefish, Weakfish, Striped Bass, Flounder, and more. The area boasts numerous hotspots, including the State Park, Captree Fishing Pier, Captree South Shore, Fire Island and its 31 miles of beaches, Fire Island Inlet, and Great South Bay. It is a revered area for its offerings and aesthetic, frequently visited, and a photographer favorite.

Additional seasonal information includes: The Summer Fluke’s official season runs May through September. Later in the year, the Captree State Park area features Blackfish (October-December) and Cod (November-January, July-September).

The Captree Princess caters to groups of up to 50 for Group Sail and rates vary. Due to rising costs of fuel and supply chain slowing, group discounts are not available at this time, however, regular rates have remained in place, unchanged. Three trips sail daily, with excursions ranging from 3.5 to 5.5 hours each, and online reservations are recommended. The Captree Princess is US Coast Guard inspected to carry up to 150 passengers and the boat features a main, heated cabin, separate restrooms, seating around the boat, and a large upper deck. Food and beverages are stocked on board and the ship also features an on-board tackle shop. Onboard fishing instruction is offered through trained, experienced personnel. E-gift cards are available for purchase.

A daily fishing report is available on the company’s website (captreeprincess.com) and trips are now being booked for Spring 2022. Fishing trips are also available on the sister ship of the Captree Princess, the Captree Pride.

Captree State Park is home to the largest fishing fleet on Long Island, a fishing haven, and picnicker's delight. It is a 340-acre state park located south of Captree Island on the easternmost end of Joes Beach Island, and overlooks the Fire Island Inlet and the westernmost section of Fire Island. It was created in 1954 and is operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation all year long.
