Laura Ceville was born in Panama City, Panama and arrived in the United States at a very young age. Although Spanish was her first language, she fell in love with the English language. In Colorado Springs, Colorado she attended the United States Air Force Academy, graduating as a Second Lieutenant with a Bachelor of Science Degree in English, after which she went on to be stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
After separating from the Air Force as a Captain in 2006, she turned her attention to writing, following her dream of wanting to be a children's author. Her first publication, in 2013, when My Dog, Jack hit the market, showed that she could write and illustrate well, and she has since gone on to write many more stories for young readers.
The Missing Baker is the story of a giant who lived in a faraway land, where he baked delicious cookies which delighted all the people in the kingdom, and especially the king. Then, one day, the king's royal purchasing agent returned to the castle with the news that the giant had disappeared.
It follows that this means that there would be no cookies for the king or anyone else in the faraway land. Growing desperate, the king ordered that the giant be found, promising vast rewards for anyone who found the giant and brought him home, so that he could make his cookies once more.
Deep in the faraway land's forest, two young brother and sister squirrels hear the news, and decide to take matters into their own hands, to rescue the giant, save the cookies, and bring peace back to the land.
The story is described as a delight to read, with illustrations by artist Onin Balita complementing the writing throughout.
