On the heels of the success of his first store in Long Beach, entrepreneur Martaveous Holliday, 27, will open his second Open Air retail location on tony Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood on March 4. In addition to offering top-of-the-line men's and women's fashion brands, including Air Jordans, Rose In Good Faith, Yeezy Gap, Nike and Daniel Patrick, Open Air offers its own collection of luxury street wear that includes puffer jackets, pants for men and women, sweats, hoodies and other upscale urban items.
The public are invited to the grand opening on March 4 from noon - 5 pm, where they may enjoy complimentary fare from food trucks stationed right out in front of the store.
The 2,400-square-foot, ultra-contemporary “concrete jungle”-like interior features a huge, wooden honeycomb G-Wall as its centerpiece. In addition, the new Open Air location will feature a lounge area complete with a juice bar where patrons are encouraged to convene and socialize. The white exterior will be emblazoned with a lighted, chrome logo. It is located at 8302 Melrose Avenue at Sweetzer Street, just two doors from the Vivienne Westwood boutique.
Open Air is the realization of Mr. Holliday’s long-held dream of being involved in the fashion retail industry.
"I entered this business in an unusual way in that I have been involved in athletics since I was a kid and continued in that direction, even playing Division One football in college. I looked up to the top players and was drawn to how they dressed while not suited up,” he recalls. “I was inspired by their fashion sense, which, in turn, helped me develop my own style that carries over into what we’re doing at Open Air.”
Mr. Holliday says that he is particularly passionate about athletic footwear.
“I have been buying and trading sneakers since I was a kid and it’s a hobby that I continue enjoying to this day,” adds the enthusiastic entrepreneur who estimates that he owns more than 160 pairs. “My interests broadened after taking design courses at Santa Monica City College, which has a very respected school of design.”
While Holliday concentrates on men’s apparel, Miss Savannah Dingman, 26, oversees Open Air’s female apparel division as well as runs all backend operations.
“Our shared passion for fashion has been a bonus in our business venture,” says Miss Dingman. “We have invested a lot of time, energy and love into this endeavor and feel blessed with Open Air’s trajectory.”
“On behalf of Savannah and I and our team, we’re so excited to open our newest location in one of the hottest retail areas in the country,” says Holliday, who opened his Long Beach location at LBX Hanger in 2021. “The success of our first location set the stage for expansion and we have been fortunate enough to land this incredible space."
