One of the biggest frustrations for any player practicing any ball sport is missing the goal and then fetching the ball...again, and again, and again.
This is a big problem in Lacrosse, where the ball is travelling at speeds of 100+mph. It's a "missile" that either disappears into the distance, gets lost in the woods, or causes serious damage to whatever gets in its way.
This results in what coaches call "shooting soft", where the player shoots at a softer speed, slower pace, and to the center of the goal to prevent missed shots. This is completely contrary to good shooting practice and skills development.
