The new sushi menu includes popular starters such as seaweed salad, ginger salad, miso soup, edamame beans and spicy tuna salad. Classic rolls include the California roll, the Philadelphia roll, spicy tuna roll, tempura shrimp roll, crab crunch, spicy tuna crunch, Godzilla roll, vegan roll and more.
The restaurant decided to create the new sushi menu out of love for the cuisine, and also because they had the perfect space to open a sushi bar, the culinary talent on their team to pull it off and the connections to make it happen.
As the restaurant’s executive chef Thad Stuckey said, “The joy of being at the Screen Door is the ability to take my diverse culinary background and bring it under one roof. From the pizza oven to the sushi bar, we have the ability to create food for James Island that showcases the ability to diversify a menu in one place in a way that brings cuisines together rather than separating them culturally.”
Executive Chef Thad Stuckey contacted Sushi Chef Drew Souvanna, former executive Chef at O-Ku Charleston, to join the team with the goal of becoming known as the restaurant with the best sushi in Charleston. The chefs have worked together to create specialty house rolls, including the Folly Beach roll (crab, tempura shrimp, avocado, cream cheese, spicy aioli, eel sauce and bacon bits), spicy tuna deluxe roll, tuna tataki roll, summer sunset roll (crab, avocado, cucumber, salmon, lemon, eel sauce and spicy aioli), rainbow roll and many more.
