The author’s own experience of observing the Machiavellian nature of office politics during his years working in finance and the sector’s winner-takes-all mindset provided the inspiration for “Animal Spirits”.
The story centers around the poisoning of Monkey, the benevolent leader of the ‘weaker’ office animals, and the villainous power-hungry Wolf, who has orchestrated the murder for his own selfish ends. Everyone wants to get their hands on a highly prized resource, but will bad behavior be rewarded? Wolf will stop at nothing to find out!
An array of entertaining anthropomorphized characters help populate this humorous portrayal of the intense competition and self-centeredness of high-power industries, including Bitch, an emotional manipulator who uses seduction to get ahead; Crocodile, a pretender who is framed for the crime; and the calculating Eagle, who is incited to carry out the unforgivable act.
If some of those characters sound a bit familiar, that’s no coincidence! The book is a deep dive into the toxic nature of the self-serving hierarchy regretfully prevalent in many workplaces today. The author saw it all during his career in finance, and he’s not afraid to share.
