For Immediate Release
Sims Exteriors and Remodeling, Cottage Grove, has been named a certified installer for the DuPontTM Tyvek Weatherization System. The system is designed to improve water and airflow management under a building’s siding and can be installed on both new construction and when siding is replaced. When installed beneath siding the Tyvek System helps protect a home and make it more comfortable and energy efficient by eliminating air leaks and drafts while preventing mold and mildew.
The complete weatherization system is more than a basic wrapped barrier. It’s an integrated system to take on all aspects of air and water penetration. As buildings age, their siding and insulation lose some of their original protective properties. When it comes time to replace siding or add insulation is an appropriate time to consider additional protection.
Siding along can’t stop air infiltration and insulation, especially older forms, doesn’t stop air from moving through a wall. The R-value of insulation is based upon no air movement. Without a barrier, even winds as mild as 8 mph can push air through insulation drastically reducing its rated value from R-14 to R-5 – so it’s working at only 37% of its rated value. The addition of properly installed barrier system shows insulation working at 90+% of its rating even in strong winds.
“Adding the weatherization system is like putting a windbreaker over a sweater to keep wind and rain from getting in,” according to home building science professionals.
A Siding Contractor Dedicated To Best Results
Because its system is based on the latest advances in building science, Dupont has instigated a Certified Installer program making up a network of specialists trained to properly deploy and install the system. Certified installers provide on-site expertise to protect buildings from both air and water infiltration. Elements that rob homes and businesses of energy efficiency and can increase heating and cooling costs.
“Our customers mean a great deal to us,” says owner JW Sims. “We want to provide them with the best products designed to protect their home and increase its longevity. Water is a home’s enemy and the DuPont Tyvek Weatherization System protects extremely well against water infiltration. If water isn’t wicked away from the structures sub straights, it can cause mold, mildew and rot.
“Any home more than 10-years-old can see its life extended with the installation of Tyvek. By installing Tyvek when replacing siding, we add a line of defense that wasn’t originally part of the design.”
