Indie travel beauty brand BlackTravelBox is celebrating its 4 year anniversary and reveals that building a beauty brand can have its ups and downs.
BlackTravelBox is celebrating their 4th Anniversary, which commemorates four challenging and fantastic years in business. This is a huge milestone for our Denver CO-based beauty business, which has provided clean hair and skin care to Black travelers since 2017.
I started BlackTravelBox out of my own frustration in managing my beauty routine on the road. I realized Black travelers spend hundreds of Billions on travel, and Black women spend 9x more on beauty than all other ethnic groups, yet there were no products on the market made for us as avid beauty consumers and avid travelers.
One of the earliest, and ongoing, challenges we've faced was finding a culturally competent production partner and financing the necessary inventory to service a burgeoning beauty brand.
While every business of course faces challenges, some, like BlackTravelBox are fortunate enough to enjoy real successes, wins and victories too. Once such victory came when Beyonce featured us on her Black Parade website last year in celebration of Juneteenth.
Most recently, we had two big wins on the retail front with being accepted into Macy's Workshop and Target's Forward Founder accelerator. Both programs give us unprecedented access and mentorship in retail."
After the many challenges and triumphs over the last year and a half, we're delighted to still be here and celebrating our four year anniversary. I believe the secret to getting this far in business today is to really see your consumer...by understanding her and putting her first we've completely changed the game in beauty and travel.
Our team currently consists of less than ten employees and has big plans for the upcoming year. One of our core objectives is to fully relaunch the brand post-covid and take advantage of some major retail opportunities.
