All of the pieces in on LIFE - Rants, Tributes and Lessons Learned in No Particular Order Perkins wrote over the last 30 to 40 years. He decided to gather them all into one book so his son — and all of his friends and family members who constantly asked to read his work over the years — would have something to remember him by.
“I promised my son that I would try to leave the paper trail that I wish I had had from my own father,” explained Perkins. “I have pieced together at least a short trail for him. Whether he finds it of any value, or even interest, will not be in my control.”
Many of the pieces in the book were inspired by Perkins’s time spent working in the motion picture and television industry as a post-production contributor. Being a devoted father and husband, quite a few of the pieces also address family dynamics and the bonds that develop between kin.
Though many heavy topics are covered in the book, Perkins tried diligently to keep the tone humorous, entertaining, and light. As a self-proclaimed contrarian, he also challenges a lot of widely held opinions and viewpoints, and in doing so, he creates an atmosphere of engagement, vulnerability, and honesty.
In the few months since its release, on LIFE - Rants, Tributes and Lessons Learned in No Particular Order has already been leaving a strong impression on readers. A recent review of the book called it “a charming, heartfelt and wonderfully compassionate collection of fresh, candid reflections on the quirks and realities of the human condition.” Another described it as “a delightful read that prompts introspection and leaves a lasting impact.”
on LIFE - Rants, Tributes and Lessons Learned in No Particular Order is Perkins’s second independently published book. His first, Dear Austin - A Letter To My Son, was released in 2010 and received similar praise from critics and readers alike. It remains in publication and is also available for purchase on Amazon or through the author’s website.
