Zanghellini & Holt Associates (ZHA) the Hong Kong based interior design company that provides architecture and design consultancy to high-end restaurants has delivered yet another iconic project, The Peak Lookout. ZHA gave this historical building a fresh new look that created a warm and welcoming ambiance with lots of small decorative elements for great visual appeal but yet manages to reflect the restaurant’s multicultural clientele.
Zanghellini & Holt Associates (ZHA) is a top interior design consultancy for restaurants in Hong Kong. ZHA provides architecture and design consultancy to high-end restaurants in Hong Kong, China, and Singapore. The Peak Lookout in Hong Kong is one of Zanghellini & Holt's (ZHA) most iconic interior design projects from their long and very prestigious portfolio. The celebrated Hong Kong establishment is housed within a historic 19th century Grade II building at 121 Peak Road, The Peak, Hong Kong. It can be found at Victoria Gap and is a popular spot for anyone visiting The Peak to take in the spectacular views. The site of the building has been in use since 1888 and was first used as a workshop and resting post for the engineers that worked on the Peak Tram Line. At the turn of the last century (1901), the government built a single-story building on the spot to resemble a traditional English style cottage. It later went on to be used as a local police station during WWII. After the war in 1947, the building was then renovated and turned into a cafe called the Old Peak Cafe, which remained until the 2001 ZHA refurbishment where it was transformed into The Peak Lookout.
The challenge set before the Zanghellini & Holt team back in 2001 was to capture the essence of the building's nostalgia with their interior renovation project. In 1981 the building was given a Grade II protective status, so ZHA had to consider this for their interior design project. The Peak Lookout in Hong Kong offers an international menu to suit its multicultural clientele, so ZHA wanted to create an interior and exterior design for the restaurant that would reflect their culinary choices.
The Peak Lookout had been operating as a cafe previous to its 2001 refurbishment with ZHA but was in great need of an upgrade. The design company gave the historical building a fresh new look that created a warm and welcoming ambiance with lots of small decorative elements for great visual appeal. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dining options with an open garden for diners to eat in during cool summer evenings. The restaurant caters for 120 indoor and 200 outdoor diners. The garden area has a stunning outlook over the South China Sea and was created to be a very romantic setting for couples celebrating special events.
