Vinyl Art has published the third in an ongoing series of case studies that reflect its 40-year history of creating vinyl and plastic products for a wide variety of customers.
The latest case study recounts working with a waterproof camera case manufacturer that wanted to add two additions to its top product without going through an expensive retooling process.
Their product was a hit with high-end camera owners, but customer input told them it would be even more functional and valuable with the inclusion of storage places for two things:
1. The camera’s instruction manual.
2. The photographer’s shot-list.
Vinyl Art’s case study explains how the team assigned to the project quickly came up with solutions for both upgrades that required no retooling expenses. In fact, the two Vinyl Art additions were produced and shipped to the camera case manufacturer before the company even had the updated marketing material ready to promote it.
Tim Hitchings, now the company’s vice president, remembers the project. “As soon as they told us what their customers were asking for, we knew it was something we already made,” he says. “All we had to do is modify two existing dies to match the exact size they needed.”
Hitchings and his staff plan to release more anecdotes about products created for clients during Vinyl Art’s 40 years in business. The case studies will be released throughout 2018 to help celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary.
Four decades of operation have resulted in the creation of over 5,000 dies which Vinyl Art can repurpose to help clients create flexible packaging and loose-leaf products. This greatly reduces the production cost involved in manufacturing. “Many of these dies have an interesting story attached to them,” Hitchings says. “We’re looking forward to sharing some of these pieces of our history.”
